Angela Lubinecky
When you look at my art you will find glimpses into where life has taken me. Early on my family left the comforts and familiarity of our home in Europe and exchanged it for a life in East Africa. I have been moving ever since.
I was raised in a multicultural expatriate community and was exposed to a variety of influences. These led to the basis of my abstract, visual expression of life.
My inspiration ranges from the bright colors and patterns printed on Kenyan “Maridadi” fabrics to the detailed beadwork in jewelry made by the Masaai tribeswomen, as well as the clear geometric designs found in Coptic Crosses of Ethiopia.
The shapes of leaves, flowers, plants and animals led to my interest and use of repetitive patterns found in nature. I think repetition is soothing and an important element in the composition of a piece of art. I am also interested in bright, vivid colors, because to me they signify life and an expression of a joy for life.
Lastly, my paintings tell the stories of people I have met throughout the world and the way my relationships with them have evolved over time through shared experiences. My paintings usually depict an event, an occasion, a special time, a memory or just a deep sentiment.
